I have a down to earth style that is warm and enthusiastic. I am passionate about my work while having a sense of humor. My life experience has enabled me to be both compassionate and direct. I have been in practice for over 36 years and know how therapy can enhance your life. I am an excellent translator for couples. I incorporate what I have learned from Native American elders and my own men's groups. I often work in partnership with my wife of 41 years, Sue Amende Plep, LMFCC.
My life experience includes growing up as a child without a father, being a Vietnam Veteran, working as a juvenile counselor and probation officer, EAP therapist, volunteer Behavioral Health Officer with the State Military Reserve and I have three children (one son and two daughters). My experience, both personal and professional, has inspired a passion to empower both men and women.
I am co-founder of the Family Therapy Institute and founder of the Northern California Men's Center.
Individual therapy is about your story and what you are going to do about it. Men's groups provide a safe place for speaking your truth, compassionate feedback, commitments, laughter, and camaraderie. My couples work focuses on understanding the differences between men and women and unwinding and healing old wounds. Affairs are a specialty. Vision Quest is a spiritual journey you give yourself only minimally guided by me.
I see significant results in men and women who make a COMMITMENT to change whether in individual, group or couples therapy. A willingness to face ones fears is essential for growth and change.

Men's Support Groups
My groups are for support and empowerment. The issues commonly brought to group are: relationships, depression, addictions, anxiety, stress, life changes, self esteem. The minimum commitment is for six weeks but the average stay is 3 1/2 years because men get that much out of the experience. Each group becomes a community of support for the men. I run four groups a week: Mondays 5-7, Wednesdays 1-3 and 4 to 6. The standard group is 1.5 hrs. Mine are 2+ hours for maximum results. Current cost is $110 a week
